The launch of the 1.5TB microSD card was announced officially at the Embedded World 2022 conference, which is still going on in Nuremberg, Germany. Micron’s i400 microSD is being mass-produced using the company’s 176-layer 3D NAND process. The company is more inclined towards the performance and endurance of the card. Undoubtedly, Micron is positioning the latest microSD card as a storing option for various video security devices including police body cameras, dash cameras in large vehicle fleets, and home security solutions.
Why 1.5TB microSD card the best option?
As per Micron, the 1.5TB microSD card can easily store footage of up to 120 days. Also, the card is quick enough to handle 4K video capture along with “up to eight AI events/ second, such as object detection and classification events like license plate and facial recognition.” Interestingly, the card is not going to get damaged before it turns 228 years old, the company claims.
Availability and price of 1.5TB microSD card
There is no official confirmation of when the Micron’s i400 microSD card will go on sale or how much people can buy it for. But we are quite sure it is not going to come at a very affordable price. The microSD card will cost high, which not everyone will buy. This is because the company is positioning the card for industrial use, and scarcity of electronic components.
Will smartphone users be able to use the Micron i400 microSD card?
As the 1.5TB microSD card is specially designed for industrial use, smartphone users won’t be able to get their hands on these cards. Smartphones can only support a microSD card of 1TB storage space at max. And some smartphones, especially the ones with cloud storage don’t even come with a slot for a microSD card.
