COVID Vaccine Dry Run Completed

Before vaccines are given to the general public, the government wanted to conduct two vaccine dry runs to identify the shortcomings of the process, if any and rectify it before the vaccine is rolled out for the general masses. Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India said that the company is ready to roll out its vaccine in the coming weeks.Doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers are first in the line to get the covid-19 vaccine.

Who Will Get COVID Vaccine First?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the country’s immunisation drive to bring the pandemic under control.According to the government, the shots will be offered first to an estimated one crore healthcare workers and around two crore frontline workers, and then to persons above 50 years of age, followed by persons younger than 50 years of age with associated comorbidities. The cost of vaccination of healthcare and frontline workers will be borne by the central government. The Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan said, “First, it has been recommended that the priority group should include health care providers and workers, from both government and private. Our estimation is that this number is around one crore… Second, frontline workers should be given priority; this group will include state and central police departments, armed forces, home guard, civil defence organisations including disaster management volunteers and municipal workers. This group is estimated to be around two crore.” He further added, “In addition, the third set of recommendations would follow “age-stratified priority groups”. The prioritised age group includes persons of age 50 years and persons less than 50 years associated with comorbidities.”

How To Get COVID Vaccine?

As of now, the vaccine is not available to the masses. Once open for the public, beneficiaries will be required to download the CO-WIN app. A digitized platform, the app serves as COVID-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network system, which will be used to track the enlisted beneficiaries and the COVID-19 vaccines on a real-time basis. During the registration, users will have to provide a list of documents, including Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID, PAN card, passport, job card or pension document.   To know more about Co-WIN app, Read: COVID Vaccine Approved: Download Co-WIN App

Is It Mandatory For Everyone To Take COVID Vaccine?

It is not mandatory for people to take the COVID-19 vaccine. However, the government has requested people to take the vaccine and complete the entire dosage. Also, citizens suffering from diabetes, hypertension, or cancer fall in the high-risk category and must take the vaccine.
